In The Loop: Knitting Past, Present and Future
A Three-day Interdisciplinary International Conference
Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, 15th-17th July, 2008

In response to the resurgence of public interest knitting has enjoyed in recent years, this interdisciplinary conference proposes an exploration of knitting from a broad range of theoretical and practical perspectives. Proposed abstracts that cross geographical or chronological boundaries in the following areas are of particular interest:
- knitting narratives including film, literature and the internet
- knitting, fashion & the industry
- knitting culture including subversion, gender, tradition and stereotype
- knitting, technology and the future
We welcome abstracts from practitioners, knitters, historians, conservators, theorists, educators, curators, technologists and the industry. Abstracts will be considered for formal 20 minute papers or poster presentations.
Selected papers or visual essays will be considered for publication in the 2008 edition of the Textile Society’s Annual Journal Text.
Deadline for abstracts: Monday October 1, 2007.
Notification of decision: Monday November 5, 2007.
300 word limit to abstracts for presentations of 20 minutes or poster presentations.
