It's a divided issue, it seems! I have always fallen into the absolutely-love-it group - but there are many that don't agree. I love the way it looks, it seems to disguise any dropped stitches and I can stick to knitting accessories without any of the scary 'sew-at-the-end, does-it-fit?' garment issues...and accessories give a quicker result for those impatient souls like me.
But I think I'm changing my mind...or at least I had it changed for me. The lovely, lovely flared lace smoke ring of yonder (started it back in the winter) isn't quite the beauty to knit that I had hoped. I liked the therapeutic rounds at first...rounds and more rounds...time stopped, Homo sapiens was evolutionarily out-competed by these guys (watch the video to see their second set of jaws!), plate tectonics subducted the entire planet - then I came round and turns out I'd finished knitting it. Phew - just in time.
Anyhow, it's horrid on me. My scrawny, giraffe neck doesn't suit it as a cowl and when pulled up over my head I resemble some kind of Knight of the Realm. A Knitting Knight...well, isn't that wonderful. There's no justice in this woolley world.
But, never fear, I have grand plans for this lace... I cannot bear for it to languish in the drawer of the Never Used Knits. So it's going to become the outer for a cushion. Watch this space.
And I'm staying away from anything with yarn-overs in it for a while...
